The Charity of Sir Thomas White, Warwick

Business Loans

The Charity of Sir Thomas White, Warwick provides interest-free loans for young people establishing a business, or to assist in improving their existing business in Warwick.

The Charity was endowed by indenture in 1551 by Sir Thomas White, a most generous local benefactor. The Charity now operates under a new Scheme, revised in 2001. The Charity has given assistance over the years to many successful Warwick Businesses.

Eligible candidates can borrow up to £10,000 interest-free for 5 years to establish themselves in their chosen business.

To be eligible for a loan you must be over 18 and under 35, and be setting-up a business in Warwick for the duration of the loan.

How it works

  1. Telephone 01926 350555 for application details, or download the application form below.
  2. When completed, return the application form together with your business plan.
  3. Any loan awarded will be secured in the form of a Legal Charge against residential property, but should you not own property then a surety/s owning property will be required and must complete a Surety Questionnaire attached to the application form below.
  4. An interview will then be arranged with a small panel of Trustees to discuss your business idea.
  5. If successful you and your surety/s will be required to sign a joint Loan Agreement.
  6. Repayment of the loan will commence 1 month after the loan has been released, by Banker's Order over a period of up to 5 years.

What to do now

If you are interested in applying for a loan or require further information, telephone Belinda Shuttleworth the Clerk to the Charity on 01926 350555 or download the application form above.

Ensure that you have thought through your business venture fully, in order that you can sell your idea to the Trustees and your proposed sureties:

  • What will you be selling?
  • Where will you operate from?
  • What is your market?
  • Who are your competitors?
  • What are your costs?
  • What will you charge?

You will need the answers to all these questions.

It may be that you have already approached your Bank, or the Prince's Trust for a loan.  Either will charge you interest, but possibly a top-up interest-free loan from this Charity could be the help you need to get your business going.

Return the application form with your business plan, and we will invite you to attend an interview once the required information is satisfactorily received.
